South-American/Caribbean jazz driven by the search for identity, belonging and nostalgia.

Singer/composer Juliana Martina was born on the tiny but magical Caribbean island of Curaçao. She was born within a Colombian family and moved to Europe at the age of ten. This unusual mix of cultures has led her to a unique and fresh sound where all her influences blend. Juliana finished her music studies at the conservatory of Rotterdam, where she specialized in traditional music of Latin-America. Enchanted by Latin-American and Caribbean folklore, Juliana writes her lyrics in Papiamentu, the beautiful language of Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba, and Spanish (her mother tongue) and combines this with a contemporary jazz sound. Juliana's album will be released in October, 2023.

Highlights

In April of last year Juliana was invited to play at Muziekgebouw aan 't Ij (Amsterdam) as a soloist to perform with renowned international reed quintet Calefax. She was one of the finalists of the Días Latinos Awards (Días Latinos Festival) and played a sold out concert at the Observant during the prestigious Amersfoort Jazz Festival 2022. Juliana was also selected as one of three 'Young Creators' for On The Roof talent trajectory in 2022 and did a sold-out performance during the On The Roof concert series in August 2022.
